Things that go bump in the night
Lots of creaky noises, weird sounds as I try to sleep
Don't worry its only the house going to sleep
Sudden noises outside awakes me
A moment of panic makes my heart race
For a split second I panic is the door locked
Is there someone in the house
Its only the cats jumping on the tin roof
I try to get to sleep but I can't
My mind is racing with all the weird sounds
doors slamming in the neighbour's houses
toilets flushing, the TV downstairs, loud voices screeching
Couples fighting, children screaming, fireworks exploding
Yardi's fighting, police raiding, tears of abused women screaming
The whispers of the West Indian woman dead in her bed above me
The pain of the old lady who's spirit rested in 40 Tildsley Cresent
Wide boy's shouting talking shit over the TV
Alone my mind races
I bolt the door, put on the chain, dead lock the door,
Lock the window's, keep the lights on,
Watch TV until I pass out with exhaustion
With other people I feel safe
With him I felt secure when he was not there
I was vulnerable to the sounds and bumps
in the nights that terrorised my mind
Now it just fucks me off because I can't sleep
